Let’s get this out of the way to begin with: This will NOT be a politically correct editorial. Yes, eating out is bad for you. Yes, if you eat out then eating “fast food” is the worst thing you can do. This probably led to my heart attack and is probably why we are losing the war on drugs, the terrorists, global warming, GMO’s, and whatever else we are warring with. I am a child of the 60’s and this is what I was raised with and on…and we liked it! Do as I say, not as I do. Please wait until the end of the post to begin the berating. On with the list!Continue reading →
I find myself more and more seeking to calm a restless heart these days. Where there has been stressful pain I hope to cause serenity. I have often thought that the closet we might find ourselves to God, to the divine, is only in two ways – to procreate…and to forgive.Continue reading →
If you are not aware, I am a grandpa (or specifically a ‘P-Paw’). I don’t FEEL like a grandpa…but I AM. All of my daughters are now in their 20’s and soon they will all be of legal drinking age. I am old.Continue reading →
Simply put…no matter where you get to in life, if you have any dignity you will not forget those you came before you. Whether it’s the guidance and love of your parents and elders or the sacrifice and diligence of your predecessors, you are where you are now probably because of someone else. In some cases they worked to prepare the way for you, or they may have given you the foundation for your current standing in life.Continue reading →
If you look at this ad from January of 1982 you will see listings for Northtown 6. An old mall located at the intersection of Webb Chapel and Forest With 635 along the North side of the mall. This is a place that was the center of teen and pre-teen hangout back in the day. This is where I spent many a summer night in my youth.
It was at the end of the strip of Forest Lane that for the 70’s and much of the 80’s was considered one of the premier cruising strips in the nation.
I had many first time experiences there that I will not get into on this post…but that I might recount in a post some other time.
What I can tell you is that I DID go to the 5:30 showing of Tron and then I MAY have snuck into the 9:55 showing of Fast Times.
I was observing my grandson the other day as he was playing in the Chick Fil A play area. As I have noticed ever since I have seen him in these situations, he gravitates to the girls that may be in the area. It’s not that he won’t be sociable with any boys, but if there are girls around he will choose them to play with first. And he will always choose the older ones first as well. Continue reading →
In the last few weeks I’ve seen how mad the world seems to have gotten lately. It’s not so much depressing as disappointing. Maybe I’m just getting old, but it just seems like people would rather be negative and angry. I remember when I was growing up one of the sayings was that it takes more muscles to frown than it does to smile…I don’t know if that’s true but if it is I feel like there’s a lot, A LOT, of facial muscles getting a workout in the world today.Continue reading →
One of my favorite groups of all time – The Beatles. They are perhaps the most covered band of all time and for good reason. They influenced so many and in fact continue to do so today. Most covers are a sign of respect, and no everyone can get it right. I prefer the covers that pay homage to the original but still let you know that they are their own performances. Here are some that I think do that.
In no particular order…Continue reading →
This is going to be kind of a give up post. I didn’t start a post or have an outline and so now here it is 11 pm on Wednesday night and I’m scrambling to get a post in before the deadline. Here goes…Continue reading →
