“That’s the way baseball go”…

That’s a quote from Ron Washington after a loss. It seems to speak to frustration, but I think it also speaks to “that’s life”…keep moving forward…

When it comes to having a healthy outlook on life, I think it’s important to realize and accept from the beginning of any situation that no matter what happens, the world keeps on turning…life goes on. No amount of planning or complaining will stop that from happening. Once that is established, then it can be very easy to take life as it happens. And perhaps more to the point, to have a better, positive outlook on life.

My buddy Sam related in a recent blog post about how a couple of his co-workers were complaining about having to come into work one particular day. He talked about trying to change their attitudes and outlook about it all, but that just seemed to anger them. Sometimes I will even give Sam a hard time about his “Cheery Fucking Outlook”. But it’s mostly in an ironic way…I mostly embrace and appreciate him for being that way.

I like to think I’m not all that much different, if maybe a little more spiritual about it. Sam spoke of how he was stuck in traffic but hey! he had some great tunes going so…that’s cool…right?! I shared with him that sometimes when I’m stuck in traffic I’ll actually turn off the music and take the time to pray a little. See…spiritual. But I’m also not opposed to putting on some good music to ride it out too.

There’s a Pink Floyd lyric that I also think about that relates to how the world keeps moving even though we might think we’re planning for it all:

And then one day you find
Ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run
You missed the starting gun

It’s OK to look back, especially to learn from your mistakes, but it’s maybe more important to pay attention and appreciate what you can about your life right now…because now is already gone.

Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.
